Public Communications Inc. and Shedd
Aquarium Win Top PRSA Silver Anvil Award
Aquarium's Wild Reef Program Gains National Recognition for Innovation
and Creativity
NEW YORK (June 4, 2004) - Public Communications Inc. (PCI) and
John G. Shedd Aquarium are the recipients of this year's prestigious
Silver Anvil Award, sponsored by the Public Relations Society of
America (PRSA). The Silver Anvil, which recognizes outstanding achievement
in strategic public relations planning and implementation, was presented
during the Silver Anvil Celebration Event held June 3 in New York
City.
The Shedd Aquarium and PCI communication teams received the 2004
Silver Anvil Award for a strategic communications campaign that
opened Wild Reef, the newest permanent exhibit at the Chicago
aquarium. The exhibit features close encounters with sharks, coral
and an array of aquatic life. Its opening helped set new attendance
records and made Shedd Aquarium the country's most attended aquarium
in 2003. Titled "Shedd Sharks Go Wild," the program won
the category of events/observances of more than seven days for associations/nonprofit
organizations.
"The PRSA Silver Anvil awards are the highest watermark of
success for any public relations practitioner," said Kelly
Womer, APR, chairperson, 2004 Silver Anvil Awards. "We congratulate
PCI and Shedd for their public relations program that incorporated
measurable and sound research, planning, execution and evaluation.
This program contributes to the best practices of our industry."
