Investigative report earns Milwaukee Press Club award

Assistant Account Executive Mary Jo Contino, who started at PCI as an intern following her December 2016 graduation from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, was recognized at the 2017 Milwaukee Press Club Gridiron Awards Dinner for her work in collegiate investigative journalism.

Mary Jo received a first place gold for an extensive feature article she wrote exposing a discriminatory policy at UW-Milwaukee that specifically targets transgender individuals. The article in the university’s student-run newspaper caught the attention of national media.

Before the awards dinner, Mary Jo and other former and current Milwaukee-area college students had the opportunity to meet with Washington Post reporter David Fahrenthold, who was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for his coverage of the 2016 United States presidential election. At the dinner, Fahrenthold was named a Sacred Cat Honoree, an award that has been given to the likes of other esteemed journalists such as Walter Cronkite.

Mary Jo’s commitment to social equality and impactful communications informed by her impressive journalism background is what makes her a perfect fit for PCI. Congratulations!
